About Us

Our History

The Richview Baptist Foundation was incorporated in 1980 as an extension of the Richview Baptist Church’s ministry to the community. The Foundation established two social housing buildings in the Etobicoke area which came to be known as the Richview Residence.Over time, the Board of Directors of the Foundation, committed to an ‘aging-in-place’ philosophy, were becoming increasingly concerned about growing frailty within the community which had necessitated a number of tenants to relocate to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

After several years of discussion with the Ministry of Health, Long-Term Care Division, the Foundation responded to a request for proposals from the Toronto District Health Council for supportive housing funds.

In April, 1995, the Foundation received funding from the Long-Term Care Division to establish a supportive housing program on-site. In following directives set out by the government on de-linking tenancy from services, the Richview Residence Supportive Housing Corporation was established on June 7, 1996 as a separate organization from the Foundation. The first directors of the corporation were instrumental in setting policies, procedures and the governance structure: Mr. Paul Benson, Mrs. Sharon Mitchell, Mr. Bruce Bassett, Mr. Paul Redlich, Dr. Alexander Henderson and Mr. Edgar Jeanes.

Founding staff of the corporation, Ms. Linda Hill and Mr. James McMurray, had a strong impact on forming the organization’s culture and values which continue to this day. On May 13, 2010 the name of our organization was changed to Richview Community Care Services Corporation to reflect our expanded services to both the tenants of Richview Residence and the Central West LHIN community. We employ a highly competent, diverse staff, promote quality services and above all strive to treat frailer adults as full citizens with the right to self-determine how they live their lives.

Referral Process

Referrals for services are accepted from individuals, their families and professionals. For the Assisted Living Services program referrals will be forwarded to the Central West CCAC. The first step in the referral process involves the collection of basic information about the person’s situation and reason for the referral at that time. The wait period between referral and assessment by the CCAC for non-crisis situations is up to 10 working days.

Client Records

Every individual who receives regular assistance by our agency has a “client file”. The file contains information the client has provided to the Care Manager, such as next of kin, medical condition, family physician, etc. The file also includes paper and/or electronic formats of eligibility assessment tools, the service agreement and other relevant documents. Information in client files is kept strictly confidential and only supportive housing staff working directly with the client are privy to the information.

Greatfull

My name is Agnes. I fell and broke my hip 6 months ago. At 93, the hospital social worker said I should move to a nursing home. When I told her I lived in a building with Assisted Living Services funded by the Ministry of Health, she contacted my care coordinator who set-up a plan that enabled me to come home. I’m so happy to be back with my cat and friends, again. I’m so grateful for the services I get here.

Greatfull

My name is Robert. I get help twice a week with a shower, but otherwise I try to manage by myself. Knowing that help is available on-site, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week has really given me the confidence to live alone. Last month I fell out of bed and couldn’t get up. I pushed my emergency response button and a support worker was here in 5 minutes.

Our motto is “there is no place like home”. It is a motto that is repeated back to us often by older adults receiving supportive care in their apartments.
